5 Ways To Tackle Anaemia

What is Anaemia?

Anaemia is a condition that develops when your blood lacks a sufficient quantity of haemoglobin that is required to bind oxygen. Men who have less than 13 grams of haemoglobin per deciliter and women who have less than 12 grams of haemoglobin per deciliter are known to be anaemic.

Symptoms of Anaemia

Constant fatigue, paleness of skin, and sense of weakness are common signs of anaemia. If you feel tired all the time and are diagnosed with anaemia, here are 5 ways you can cope with it.

Eat Iron Rich Foods

Iron is essential for the production of haemoglobin. Include good sources of iron such as lean meats and chicken, green leafy vegetables, and beans in your diet.

Increase Vitamin C Intake

To help your body absorb iron, intake of vitamin C is important. Orange juice, strawberries, broccoli, and citrus fruits are rich sources of vitamin C that aid in iron absorption.

Avoid Tea and Coffee

Beverages like tea and coffee contain tannins that bond with iron to form complex compounds that your body can’t absorb. This causes any iron consumed to simply pass through the digestive system without being utilised.

Don’t Go Vegan

Vitamin B12 is essential for the production of haemoglobin. Since it is found only in animal food sources, vegans and vegetarians often lack this important vitamin. In such a case your doctor may prescribe vitamin B12 supplements or injections.

Tackle Cause Of Blood Loss

Anaemia could stem from excessive blood loss during menstrual periods or digestive problems, such as frequent diarrhoea or blood in your stool. It is important to talk to your doctor and address these issues immediately.
