Medanta Hosts Women’s Health Talk to Encourage Proactive Care and Well-Being

Guwahati, 10 October, 2026: Women’s health evolves significantly through different stages of life, yet concerns are often overlooked or addressed only when they begin to affect everyday life. With this in mind, Medanta, one of the largest multi-specialty tertiary and quaternary care provider operating across North and East India, organised a Women’s Health Talk on 10th October, 2026 in Guwahati to encourage women to take a more proactive role in understanding, prioritising and managing their health.

The session, organised in association with Aparupa, a not-for-profit organisation for women empowerment, bringing together medical expertise and community engagement to address some of the everyday challenges that women face while navigating their health and healthcare.

Speaking at the talk, Dr. Amita Jain, Associate Director, Urogynaecology at Medanta Gurugram said women often become the primary caregivers for their families, but in the process, overlook their own health. She said, “Taking charge of your health means paying attention to the changes in your body, not normalising persistent symptoms and having the confidence to ask questions when you see a doctor. Whether it is a routine screening, a concern about a new symptom or a decision about treatment, women should have the information and confidence to participate actively in their healthcare decisions. The earlier we move from reactive care to informed and preventive care, the greater the opportunity to protect long-term health and well-being.”

A key theme of the talks was self-advocacy in healthcare. Women were encouraged to actively participate in conversations about their health by communicating their concerns clearly, asking questions, understanding their diagnosis and treatment options, and seeking clarification when needed.

Renowned writer, filmmaker, and social activist Ms. Runa Laila, founder of Aparupa, who launched the session, said, “Women are so used to putting their families and responsibilities first that we often do not pause to think about our own health until something goes wrong. This session was made healthcare feel less intimidating and reminded us that asking questions, getting the right screenings and paying attention to changes in our bodies are all things we can actively do. It was an important reminder that taking care of ourselves is not a luxury, but a responsibility towards our own well-being.”

The session also highlighted simple ways to prepare for medical consultations, including maintaining a record of symptoms and relevant medical history, so that conversations with healthcare professionals are more informed and productive. Also present during the talks were Dr. Malabika Bhagawati, Senior Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Medanta Mediclinic Guwahati and Dr. Ananya Deori, Associate Consultant, Breast Services at Medanta Gurugram.

The discussion also addressed the role of lifestyle and nutrition in supporting women’s overall well-being, and participants were encouraged to view a balanced diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep and effective stress management as important foundations of good health.
