Medanta Patna Brings Together Breast Cancer Survivors to Spread Awareness and Hope

Patna, October 27, 2026: With the aim of dispelling misconceptions, fears, and social hesitation regarding breast cancer, Jai Prabha Medanta Super Speciality Hospital, Patna, organized a special breast cancer awareness event and a gathering for cancer survivors. The event saw the participation of over 160 individuals, including more than 100 women who have successfully completed their breast cancer treatment and are now leading healthy lives. Senior physician Dr. Shanti Roy was a special guest at the event, which was also attended by members of the Rotary Club and Inner Wheel.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in India. According to estimates published by the National Cancer Registry Programme of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), approximately 233,000 new cases of breast cancer were projected for the country in 2025. Experts noted that social hesitation, misconceptions, and the tendency to ignore early symptoms often prevent women from seeking timely medical advice.

Dr. Niharika Roy, Senior Consultant – Breast Services at Medanta, Patna, explained that while not every breast lump is cancerous, a painless lump should never be ignored. She emphasized the importance of timely medical evaluation for any unusual changes in breast shape, skin, or nipples, as well as the appearance of any discharge. She urged women to remain vigilant about changes in their breasts and to undergo necessary screenings based on their age and individual risk factors, in consultation with a medical expert.

A key highlight of the event was an interactive Q&A session that addressed various myths and the realities surrounding breast cancer. During the event, women and cancer survivors raised questions regarding the causes of the disease, early symptoms, biopsies, surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, the risk of cancer recurrence, and life after treatment. The senior physicians and experts present addressed each query, providing information based on scientific facts and available treatment options.

Women who have completed their cancer treatment shared their personal journeys, recounting their experiences—from the initial diagnosis through the treatment process to their return to a healthy life. They encouraged those currently battling cancer to remain hopeful, maintain a positive outlook toward their treatment, and consistently follow medical advice. Their stories conveyed a powerful message: with the right treatment, family support, and ongoing care, it is entirely possible to lead an active and meaningful life after a cancer diagnosis.

Dr. Ravi Shankar Singh, Medical Director at Medanta Patna, emphasized that in the fight against breast cancer, awareness and social support are just as crucial as medical treatment. He explained that at Medanta Patna, personalized treatment plans are developed for patients through the coordinated efforts of specialists in breast surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and other relevant fields. The hospital strives to ensure that women receive expert guidance at every stage—from screening and diagnosis to treatment and post-treatment care.

He added that Medanta Patna is actively working to raise awareness about breast cancer through various community initiatives, including the ‘Aao, Dekho, Seekho’ campaign. The objective of such programs is to help women overcome fear and hesitation, encouraging them to seek timely screenings and appropriate medical care.

Senior experts from Medanta Patna were present on the occasion, including Dr. Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, Director of Radiation Oncology; Dr. Meena Samant, Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Dr. Amarendra Amar, Associate Director of Medical Oncology; Dr. Amit Kumar, Associate Director of Medical Oncology; and Dr. Naveen Nayan, Consultant in Medical Oncology. Additionally, members of Inner Wheel and Rotary from various regions of Bihar, cancer survivors, family members of patients, and other participants attended the event.

The program concluded with a message focused on raising awareness about breast cancer, dispelling associated myths, and encouraging women to undergo timely screenings and seek specialized treatment.
