Brain Tumour Clinic

Focus is on treatment of brain tumours by a dedicated team of neurosurgeons, radiosurgeon, neuroradiologist radiotherapist and medical oncologist who focus on diagnosis and treatment tumours such as glioma, meningiomas, pituitary adenomas and other brain tumours. The centre has facilities such as intra-operative MRI (brain suite) for MR guided surgery, LINCC radiosurgery system, endoscopic neurosurgery for minimally invasive tumour removal. Centre also has advanced diagnostic facilities such as 3T MRI, CT and PET.

Epilepsy Clinic

A small percentage of people with epilepsy do not respond to even highest doses of 3 or 4 drugs, which needs evaluation to find out the cause, and also whether surgery would be of benefit. At our centre, we have an expert team that can evaluate and perform the entire range of epilepsy surgery procedures that may be required in any patient. Our facilities include EEG, video EEG, SPECT, PET, advanced MRI and Neuronavigation, including the Brain Suite.

Movement Disorders Clinic

At times, when medications do not give relief in Parkinson's disease, surgery can be considered a good option in selected patients. The surgery preferred is Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), in which electrodes are placed in certain special nuclei in the brain, and connected to a pacemaker placed (typically) below the left collar bone. This surgery usually results in significant benefit in all symptoms, such as tremors, stiffness and slowness of movements. Patients with Dystonias are also good candidates for surgical procedures, especially because these do not respond very favourably to medications. Apart from DBS, there are other options including other types of surgery, lesioning and also Botulinum Toxin (BoTox) injection.

Neurology Sleep Clinic

At Medanta the patients be it new or returning  can get appointments at which they can meet with sleep specialists to talk about their issue, undergo physical examinations and clarify their medical histories. The aim of the centre is to provide quality diagnostic services and testing  through state-of-the-art machinery and healthcare expertise.

Stroke Clinic

The Stroke programme focuses on disorders such as paralytic attacks, brain hemorrhage and treatment of disorders such as brain aneurysms, carotid stenosis. Facilities included brain rescue program to perform emergency reopening of occluded blood vessels to reverse paralysis, endovascular program to treat many disorders of brain without performing open surgery, rehabilitation and advanced diagnostic facilities such as 3T MRI and CT.

Pain Clinic

Everyone has experienced pain sometime in life associated with damage or injury to our body parts and we expect it to get better once healing has occurred. Such pain which gets better with healing within acceptable time frame is called acute pain.
On the other hand the pain which persists beyond the normal healing time frame and is still present three months after the damage or injury is called Chronic Pain. Chronic pain can cause disability and may have multiple implications on patient’s life in the form of depression, anxiety, relationship and performance issues. Read More

Utilize latest technology

  • BrainSUITE with Intra-Operative Imaging OT

BrainSUITE with intra-operative imaging is an excellent operating theatre, which has the capability of intra-operative MR imaging and MR guided surgery. It helps the surgeon to perform a high-resolution MRI which is required during the surgery. It avoids normal brain tissues and assesses the degree of tumour removal. It helps to visualise the tumour during surgery. The image guidance of Intra-operative imaging helps in performing precise surgery. This prevents damage to normal brain tissues and helps in the preservation of normal brain function. Medanta Speciality is the Miyabi ( 2 room concept, where the MRI is in the adjacent room , this is one of its kind in the country, the OT can be isolated completed in case MRi is not required.

  • CyberKnife VSI

It is a non-invasive treatment for cancerous and non-cancerous tumours and other conditions where radiation therapy is indicated. Cyberknife is the only fully robotic radiation delivery system. The robotic design, coupled with real-time imaging, enable the Cyberknife System to deliver a maximum dose of radiation directly to the tumour from many different angles with sub-millimeter precision.

  • O-Arm Spine Suite

O-Arm offers multiple image protocols allowing the doctor the flexibility to minimise dose to the patient based on individual clinical objectives. Minimally invasive O-Arm has the potential to decrease muscle and tissue disruption, intra-operative blood loss, & post-op deformities. All of this translates into better patient outcomes & faster patient recovery.

  • 3.0 Tesla MRI

The 3.0 Tesla MRI is an extremely efficient technology, which utilises shorter scan times and maximises patient comfort without compromising quality. The image clarity of this technology is particularly beneficial for pathological conditions involving the brain, spine and musculoskeletal system. This allows our health-care team to provide you with early diagnosis and treatment, subsequently reducing potential complications.

  • 256 Slice CT

This is an innovative non-invasive imaging technique that is specifically used to obtain a complete 3-Dimensional visual representation of the brain and other organs, in as less as 5 seconds. Its advanced machinery allows the experts to view your organs from any angle and the embedded detector can pick up varying densities of the organs and sends this data to a computer. The data acquisition and processing in this machine is four times faster than conventional machines, enabling us to give you the best possible diagnosis in the shortest possible scanning time.

  • Electroencephalography(EEG)

In clinical settings, EEG means recording of the brain's unconstrained electrical action over a timeframe, as recorded from different terminals placed on the scalp. Voltage fluctuations are measured by the EEG which are caused from the ionic current inside the neurons of the brain. It is used to diagnose  sleep disorders, epilepsy, brain death, encephalopathies and coma.

  • Video EEG

Brainwaves on an EEG and a video of what is happening in the meantime are recorded in a video EEG test. The object is to have the capacity to perceive what is going on when you have an event or seizure and contrast the photo with what the EEG records in the meantime. Sounds that happen amid the testing are likewise recorded - this can increase if a man talks or makes sounds amid an event. By doing this, specialists reading the EEG can tell if the event or seizure was identified with the electrical movement in the brain.

  • Biplane Cath Lab

A specific heart catheterisation suite in which transoesophageal echocardiography is performed. The procedure utilizes two arrangements of imaging sources and cameras, each allowed to move freely, enabling two arrangements of pictures to be brought with every infusion of radiocontrast. Medanta was the 1st hospital in Delhi-NCR to have a biplane cath lab.

  • Brain Tumour removal using ALA Dye

ALA dye is a orally consumed dye, which when used for surgery can highlight the tumour cells to pink colour under a special blue light microscope. The tumour cells which look like normal brain to the naked eye, when highlighted pick ensure a better resection and imporved outcome.

  • Tumour Embolisation

Tumour Embolisation is a procedure to shut down the blood supply to cancer cells in order to promote their reduction or complete cell death. It is an option for patients with tumours that cannot be removed by surgery. It can be used for tumours that are too large to be treated with ablation.

  • Cranioplasty

It is a surgical repair of a defect or deformity of a skull. Cranioplasty is performed mostly after traumatic surgeries. It is a surgical intervention to repair cranial defects in both cosmetic and functional ways. There are different kinds of cranioplasties, but most involve lifting the scalp and restoring the contour of the skull with the original skull piece

  • Decompressive Craniotomy

Decompressive Craniotomy is the removal of a large area of skull to increase the potential volume of the cranial cavity. It is performed on the victims of traumatic brain injury and stroke. Special measures are taken to protect the brain after this surgery as the risk of brain injury is increased.

  • Intracranial Aneurysm Embolisation

Embolisation of brain aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVM)/ fistulas is a minimally invasive treatment for aneurysms and other blood vessel malformations that occur in the brain. It uses imaging guidance to place small, soft metal coils into an aneurysm to block the flow of blood and prevent an aneurysm from rupturing.
