As predominant centres of medical talent and expertise, it is incumbent upon healthcare institutions to contribute to the advancement of medical research. Leading healthcare institutions around the world have not only excelled in providing their target populations with diagnostic and therapeutic services, but have also been in the frontlines of biomedical research. Research and development were among the key objectives behind the incorporation of Global Health Limited since its inception and creation of the Medanta brand, supported by the Medanta Institute of Education and Research, a not-for-profit entity within the Medanta group of institutions that support all non-profit research at Medanta.
A variety of research activities are undertaken at Medanta – The Medicity, the lead hospital in the Medanta group of institutions and to a greater or lesser extent at the other Medanta sites. These range from clinical research directed towards development or monitoring of performance of novel healthcare products, to evaluation of medical devices, diagnostic products, and medical software. In addition, Medanta plans to set up infrastructure to provide biobanking facilities and data science for research.
