Steps to take before the Urethroplasty surgery
The doctor or the urologist may run several tests before the surgery. The patient will be advised not to ingest anything through the mouth, eight to ten hours prior to the surgery.
What happens during the surgery?
The surgery is done under general anaesthesia. The doctor will make a surgical cut in the penis and scrotum. The incision is made exactly over the area of the stricture.
In order to treat small strictures, the anastomotic technique is usually applied. In this technique, the blocked portion of the urethra is cut. And, the surgical incisions help to join the close parts of the urethra.
After the procedure
After the surgery is complete, the patient will be required to use a urethral catheter for the next 2 – 4 weeks, after which it is will be removed. Complete bed rest and constant monitoring for vital signs are done for the next 4 – 5 days.
