About the Speciality

Radiation Oncology at Medanta capitalizes on the team approach that bring together our expert radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, physicists, and nurses for every patient under our care. We use advanced technologies, including Cyberknife VSI, Integrated Brachytherapy Unit, and Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) to treat cancers of the bladder, brain, breast, reproductive organs (male and female), lung, and head and neck. Our centre combined conventional radiotherapy and new technologies to treat malignant lymphomas, ocular melanoma and sarcomas.

Radiation oncologists work closely with medical oncologists, surgeons and other doctors for most appropriate, personalised care. We offer painless treatments with technologies, including Cyberknife VSI, Robotic Radiosurgery, and IGRT. Each radiation oncologist has specialised training in performing radiation treatment with focus on minimizing radiation dose to normal tissues.

The Disease Management Group (DMG) approach in oncology care involves specialized multidisciplinary teams for each cancer type. It includes medical, radiation, surgical oncologists, and care providers like physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, therapists, and psychologists. The DMG is backed by a Core Clinical Group (CCG) with experts in various fields, such as pathology, nutrition, rehabilitation, cyto-oncology, nuclear medicine, and palliative care. It acts as a central point of contact for patients and their families. Regular meetings are held to discuss cases and develop clinical protocols.

Medanta Cancer Institute has organ-specific surgeons and technology. Doctors across the liver, brain, head and neck, lung, prostate, breast, female reproductive organs, and abdomen are available to ensure the right specialist treats the right type of cancer.

Medanta has advanced radiation technologies for treating and diagnosing different types of cancers. The availability of Cyberknife VSI, Tomotherapy, linear accelerators with VMAT/IGRT and an Integrated Brachytherapy Unit ensures the complete bouquet of radiation delivery systems. We can detect small tumours, facilitating early treatment. Any size 5 mm to 135 cm tumors can be treated using these technologies.

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer in females globally. Age, genetics, and dense breast tissue are among its causes. Medanta has a specialized Breast Services team offering treatments like mastectomy, radiation therapy, and lumpectomy for breast cancer.

GI Surgery

Gastrointestinal (GI) surgery encompasses procedures related to the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, and pancreas. Surgeons may perform GI surgeries to treat conditions like gastrointestinal cancers, inflammatory bowel diseases, gallbladder issues, and obesity.

Brain Tumour

Brain tumors are abnormal cell growths in the brain. There are two types: noncancerous and cancerous. Symptoms include severe headaches, seizures, persistent nausea, or paralysis. At Medanta, we use Cyberknife VSI for robotic cancer treatment.

Liver Cancer

It is a condition that happens when normal cells in the liver become abnormal in appearance and behaviour. Malignant or cancerous cells that develop in the liver's normal cells cause the condition called hepatocellular carcinoma. At Medanta, we use surgery, radiation therapy, thermal ablation, and percutaneous ethanol injection as treatment options. Our team specialises in liver transplantation and radiation therapy.

Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer People who smoke have the greatest risk of lung cancer. The risk of lung cancer increases with the length of time and number of cigarettes you have smoked. As lung cancer stages advance, lung cancer symptoms include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and bloody mucus. Treatment includes surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation. At Medanta surgeries such as Pneumonectomy, Wedge Resection and radiation therapy using Cyberknife VSI is carried out with great precision.

Head & Neck Cancer

Cyberknife

The Cyberknife boasts pain-free and non-invasive cancer treatment, eliminating the need for a traditional surgical approach. It achieves a higher level of precision by utilising two X-ray cameras. Cyberknife is particularly effective in treating various diseases, including oligometastatic disease, brain tumors, prostate cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, recurrent head and neck cancer, as well as kidney cancer.
