Utilize technology

  • Da Vinci Robotic Surgery

The Da Vinci robotic technology is the most advanced platform for the treatment of head and neck cancers using minimally invasive surgery. The Da Vinci robotic technology enables surgeons to perform delicate and complex surgeries through a few tiny incisions made in the diseased area of the throat. The technology uses miniaturised instruments mounted on three separate robotic arms, allowing the surgeon maximum range of motion and precision. The Da Vinci’s fourth arm contains a magnified high-definition 3-D camera that guides the surgeon during the procedure. The hand movements of the surgeon are converted into corresponding micro-movements of instruments inside the patient’s body.

  • PET Scan

The PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scan is an advanced technology that enables easy diagnosis of head and neck cancer. It is a functional imaging technique used to observe metabolic processes in a human body. During the process, a dye is used which involves radioactive tracers. These tracers are vaccinated into the body through a vein in the arm. The tracer gets diluted in the body. With the help of the tracer, the doctors are able to detect the presence of cancerous tumours and cells in the head and neck area.

  • CyberKnife

The CyberKnife VSI Robotic Radiosurgery System is a non-invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of both cancerous and non-cancerous tumours in the head and neck area. The treatment delivering beams of high-dose radiation to tumours with extreme accuracy offers new hope to patients worldwide. A robotic arm is used in this technology to engage the radiation rays with any part of the body. A Lightweight Linear Accelerator, commonly abbreviated as LINAC, is involved with a Robotic arm, ensuring view from different angles. It provides a pain-free, non-surgical option for patients who have inoperable or surgically complex head and neck tumours or who may be looking for an alternative to surgery.

Avail advanced treatment and procedures

  • Neck Dissection

Neck dissection is a surgical procedure in which the neck’s fibro-fatty contents are removed for treating cancer. Cancer cells often migrate to the lymph nodes in the neck. The Neck Dissection technique is performed in order to prevent these cells from migrating.

  • Oral Composite Resection

Oral composite resection and reconstruction is conducted to treat cancers that develop within the oral cavity. This is known as oropharynx cancer. The procedure makes use of incision to remove the tumor that develops within the tissues of the oral cavity.

  • Thyroidectomy

Thyroidectomy is a surgical procedure where a specific diseased portion or the entire thyroid gland is removed from the patient’s neck. The amount of thyroid gland removed during thyroidectomy depends on the extent and severity of the cancer.

  • Glossectomy

Glossectomy is the process which involves surgically removing a part or the whole tongue. It is commonly used to cure tongue cancers and can also be performed when other head and neck cancers have spread to the tongue.

Why choose Medanta?

Medanta has formed the Disease Management Group (DMG) for cancer care. In this approach for each type of cancer, a multidisciplinary group of specialists including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and physiologists meet in a tumour board setting to discuss about complex cases and offer the best possible course of treatment for the patient.
