A hysteroscopy can be done under local or no anaesthesia, but more complex procedures may be done in the operating room regional or general anaesthesia.

Unlike open surgery, which requires large incisions, laparoscopy utilises keyhole incisions, reducing tissue trauma and postoperative pain due to surgery.
