About Dr. Naresh Trehan

Dr. Naresh Trehan is the Founder of Medanta and continues to serve as its Chairman, Managing Director and Chief Cardiac Surgeon. He is one of India’s most foremost and distinguished cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeons, with more than 50 years of experience in cardiac surgery and over 48,000 open-heart surgeries to his credit.

After completing his medical education at King George's Medical College, Lucknow, Dr. Trehan underwent advanced surgical training in the United States at Thomas Jefferson University and New York University Medical Center, where he trained under renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Frank Spencer and later joined the faculty. His clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of cardiac surgery, from coronary artery bypass surgery to complex and high-risk cardiac procedures. In 1988, Dr. Trehan returned to India and founded the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, contributing significantly to the advancement of modern cardiac surgery in the country. In 2009, he founded Medanta – The Medicity with the vision of creating an integrated, multidisciplinary institution bringing together advanced clinical care, research, education and technology. Alongside his continuing surgical practice, he has trained and mentored generations of clinicians and has played a defining role in the evolution of private tertiary healthcare in India.
