A stroke is a condition in which the brain cells die due to sudden lack of blood supply and oxygen. As a result, the affected area of the brain cannot function, which might result in an inability to move one or more limbs of either side of the body, inability to understand or formulate speech or an inability to see one side of the visual field. A stroke is a medical emergency and can cause permanent neurological damages and death.
This can be caused by an obstruction in the blood flow or the rupture of an artery that feeds the brain. The patient may suddenly lose the ability to speak, there may be memory problems or one side of the body can become paralyzed.
