Robotic Chest Surgery

Robotic chest surgery at Medanta is performed using advanced surgical robotic platforms that translate the surgeon's hand movements into highly precise, tremor-filtered, three-dimensional manoeuvres through small incisions in the chest wall. The robotic system provides a magnified, high-definition operative field that far exceeds what the naked eye can achieve during open thoracotomy, and its articulating "wristed" instruments allow dissection in anatomical planes that would be mechanically difficult through conventional VATS instruments. For procedures such as lobectomy, segmentectomy, thymectomy, and oesophagectomy, the robotic approach is associated with lower intraoperative blood loss, shorter chest drain duration, reduced postoperative pain, earlier ambulation, and faster return to normal activity compared with open surgery. Medanta has completed over 1,000 robotic chest surgeries (one of the highest volumes at any thoracic centre in India) with outcomes comparable to internationally benchmarked centres.
