Medanta Organizes three-day Medical Camp in Kohima
Kohima, June 27, 2025 – Medanta – The Medicity, which has been ranked India’s Best Private Hospital by Newsweek for six consecutive years, successfully organized in partnership with the Government of Nagaland a three-day Medical Camp in Kohima which concluded on June 27, 2025.
The multi-speciality Medical Camp saw more than 400 people turning up for a health check-up. The event, set up in association with IDAN, Government of Nagaland; Directorate of Industries and Commerce; and Nagaland Police, sought to bring advanced and accessible health care to the underserved population of Nagaland.
The Medical Camp was organized subsequent to Medanta signing an MoU with the Nagaland government for accreditation to the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS). Mr. Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, was the Chief Guest on the first day of the Camp; Mr. P. Tokugha Sema, Director of Industries and Commerce, inaugurated the second day’s session; while Mr. Rupin Sharma, DGP Nagaland Police, graced the event with his presence on the third and final day.
Nagaland faces unique healthcare challenges due to a high prevalence of cancer[1] – especially with regards to tobacco use – coupled with limited access to specialized care.
Speaking about the Medical Camp, Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, said quality healthcare should be a right, not a privilege.
“North East India is a region that has long been underserved with respect to health care services. Expanding quality healthcare to India’s underserved populations is not just a strategic objective—it is a moral imperative. By predicting a person’s risk for specific diseases and creating treatments based on their unique risk profile, we can better manage health. Cancers are often diagnosed at later stages,” he shared.
Mr. Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister & Chair, Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland, stated, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Medanta Group for partnering with the Government of Nagaland and bringing their world-class medical ecosystem to our state.”
The Camp was held at three different locations.
Mr. Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, was the Chief Guest at the first Camp, held at the IDAN, Capital Convention Center, Kohima on June 25, 2025, for all employees and members of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), along with the Nagaland Olympics Association as well as members of sports confederations associated with Nagaland Olympics Association.
Thanking the Medanta team of doctors and nurses for participating in the initiative, Mr. Longkumer highlighted the severe limitations in health care that Nagaland faces, and stressed upon the importance of spreading awareness about cancer. He also stated his keen desire to make access to information on preventive healthcare easily available for the people of the state, and offered his support to bringing quality healthcare to all Nagas.
The other two locations where the Camp was held were the Directorate of Industries and Commerce Office, Kohima on June 26, 2025, which was organized for the employees of the Directorate of Industries and Commerce as well as all Public Sector Enterprises falling under this Directorate. Mr. P. Tokugha Sema, Director of Industries and Commerce, inaugurated the second day’s session and led the way for all employees to conduct their tests.
On the third day, the Medical Camp was held at the Nagaland Police Headquarters in Kohima on June 27, 2025, which was for all staffers of Nagaland Police. Mr. Rupin Sharma, DGP Nagaland Police, inaugurated the session and expressed his desire to see a blossoming future partnership between Nagaland Police and Medanta that will make quality healthcare accessible for all 25,000 police staff.
