Steps to take before the procedure
The treatment starts with initial tests to determine the extent of the affected area and for signs of viable tissues. ECG, X-ray, cardiac MRI, cardiac ultrasound etc. are a few imaging tests that are conducted at this stage. Your doctor will inform you about the process of treatment and will advise on any changes that you are required to make in your diet or medications.
What happens during the process?
The surgery is performed under the effect of anaesthesia. Tiny incisions are made in the arteries and sheaths are introduced using a guide wire along with two catheters. Both the guidewire and catheters are made to cross the site of the occlusion. Once the occlusion is widened, stents are implanted. Then, the catheters are removed and wounds are closed.
After the procedure
You will require long-term medication after the treatment. You will also be required to make a few changes in your lifestyle, that you surgeon will inform you about.
