Steps to take before the surgery
Before the surgery, your doctor will evaluate your medical history and your eyes will be tested. The tests include measuring corneal thickness, refraction, and pupil dilation. Your doctor at Medanta will answer all your questions and will make sure you are thoroughly prepared for the surgery.
What happens during the process?
The first step is to apply anaesthesia through eye drops. The second step requires the creation of the flap in the cornea through a beam of the laser. Surgeon folds back this flap to perform the next step of the surgery. The next step is to reshape the cornea and to remove corneal tissues using a laser beam. After the cornea is reshaped or corneal tissues are removed, surgeons place back the created flap, which was earlier held back. This flap covers the area from where the tissues were removed and acts as a seal and bandage for the cornea.
Your doctor will give you eye drops to prevent infection and help keep your eyes moist. You will need a subsequent evaluation after 24-48 hours after the surgery. Healing after the surgery occurs very rapidly.
