What happens during the procedure?
The procedure of haemorrhoids banding involves tying the base of the haemorrhoid, using a small elastic band (rubber). It is based on the principle of ligation- a surgery done by tying a band around a blood vessel. The band will shrink the haemorrhoid and the surrounding tissues. It will also hold the haemorrhoid. The doctor will use an instrument (anoscope), and insert it into the anus to look at the inside of the anus and rectum, and to evaluate the status. The banding treatment will be completed in 3-4 sittings within 6-8 weeks.
After undergoing this procedure, the patient is likely to feel mild pain. The patient will also sense heavy in the area below the naval, which feels like defecation. This is a temporary condition. The patient will also be prescribed painkillers.
