Steps to take before the surgery
Your doctor may conduct a complete medical evaluation to ensure you are in a good health to undergo the surgery. You will be advised to take certain medications or adjust your current medications. Doctors at Medanta will assist you thoroughly during and post-treatment.
What happens during the surgery?
The surgery is performed under anaesthesia or sedatives. Small incisions are made around the nipples or areola, or at any other place deemed fit by the surgeon. Excessive fat is cut and taken out through these incisions. Excision can also be followed by liposuction to efficiently remove any leftover fat. Excision is crucial if the areola is to be reduced, or to give more subtle natural contouring to the breast. After the surgery, the incisions are closed and covered with a dressing. The chest is seldom wrapped by bandages or garment to keep it firm and in place.
After the procedure
Keep the incisions clean and protect the area from exposure to sunlight. You should start your body movements, as soon as possible. You will be advised to avoid heavy lifting for 4-6 weeks and sexual activity for 1-2 weeks. Overall, you can go back to your normal routine in 10-15 days.
