Steps to take before Diabetic Foot Vascular Surgery
Discuss with your doctor about all kinds of medications that you have been taking. The initial phase of screening includes diagnostics such as measuring the blood sugar level of the patient and the sensation threshold. Our doctors at Medanta will ensure that the patient is in good health to undergo the surgery, and does not face any discomfort during the course of the procedure.
What happens during the procedure?
The sharp surgical debridement has three steps, i.e. drainage of tissue and pus, stimulating healing of the chronic wound, and assessment of the extent of infection. The patient must be relieved of any pain using local anaesthesia. The doctor should keep hold of health issues and remove all dead tissues while performing the procedure. Patients with deep tissue infections should be amputated alone or in combination with osteomyelitis.
After Diabetic Foot Vascular Surgery
After the surgery, the patient will be monitored in the hospital for up to 3 weeks. It might take 4 to 8 weeks for the wound to heal completely. In addition to the primary care, the patient might also require the services of a physical therapist, occupational therapist, endocrinologist, and mental health provider.
