How is it treated?

At Medanta, the treatment for the disorder – either medication or surgery – is prescribed based on patient’s case history which includes the complexity, cause and medications patient was under in the past.

..

  • Medication

If the cause of the syndrome is long-term use of corticosteroid medicines, the doctor will instruct the patient on how and when to slowly decrease the dosage of those medicines while managing asthma, arthritis, blood pressure, or any other condition.

  • Surgery

When the cause is a tumour, the treatment involves its removal surgically. If the removal of tumour is not possible due to some reason, then medication is used to stop the release of cortisol hormone. Radiation is also used to shrink the tumour. Removal of tumour may lead to full recovery, but in a few cases, a tumour may recur which may be life-threatening.
