The following symptoms may help in recognizing cholecystitis:

  • Right upper abdominal pain.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Fever and chills.
  • Cramps and bloating.
  • Loose, light-coloured stools.
  • Itching.
  • Back or right shoulder blade ache.

Causes

Gallstones are the most common cause of cholecystitis. There is bile, which builds up in the gallbladder. If gallstones obstruct the bile ducts, it leads to inflammation and becomes the cause of cholecystitis.

Risks

The main risk factor for developing cholecystitis is having gallstones.

Prevention

One can prevent themselves from the risk of cholecystitis by:

  • Losing weight (extra fats).
  • A healthier diet.
  • Avoid foods with high level of fats and cholesterol, (as this could raise the
  • chance of developing gallstones).
