How is it treated?

Treatment for cerebral stroke depends upon the kind of stroke. At Medanta, following are the techniques to treat the disease:

..

  • Use of drugs

In a case of an ischemic stroke, which is caused by blocked or narrowed arteries, treatment includes the use of drugs to break down the clots and prevent the formation of new ones. In the case of an emergency, the administration of drugs may be done through a catheter into an artery, or the clot is physically removed using a catheter.

  • Carotid endarterectomy

It is a surgery that removes any plaque in the artery causing the blockage.

  • Angioplasty

It is another surgical treatment that prevents the artery from narrowing down.

  • Surgical treatment

In case, of a hemorrhagic stroke, drugs may be administered to reduce blood pressure and control constriction of the blood vessels. Surgical treatment may also be effective to prevent ruptures and stop blood flow or remove small arteriovenous malformations.
