Breast Cancer Clinic

The doctors at Medanta’s Breast Cancer Clinic evaluate breast abnormalities like abnormal mammogram and presence of new or suspicious lumps using techniques like Mammography, ultrasound, MRI-guided breast biopsy and other services. Once the cancer is diagnosed, the doctor opts for treatments like surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, biological treatments, hormone therapy and other treatments for breast cancer.

Mastalgia Clinic

The Mastalgia Clinic at Medanta caters to patients who report breast problems like changes in breast skin, nipple discharge, breast infection and breast pain. The doctors aim to provide relief from all the breast related problems which may or may not be a symptom of breast cancer. The Clinic also offers counselling for breast cancer prevention, patient education and breast cancer survivorship programs.

Family History Clinic

The Family History Clinic at Medanta conducts a thorough examination of the family as well as the medical history of the patient to determine the root cause of breast cancer. The doctor conducts various screening tests for breast cancer and also provides genetic counselling for people who are at a high risk of having breast cancer.

Lymphoedema Service

The Lymphoedema Services offered at Medanta assist in the diagnosis of Lymphoedema- a condition that causes swelling in the patient’s limbs due to damage or removal of lymph nodes during the treatment. Lymphoedema may arise while the patient is going through the treatment or after the treatment of breast cancer.

Breast Reconstruction and Oncoplastic Clinic

The Medanta Breast Reconstruction & Oncoplastic Clinic offers services like oncoplastic surgery- a procedure involves reconstructing the patient’s breast after surgery. The procedure restores the normal shape of the breast which is left distorted due to the tumour.

Utilize cutting-edge technology

  • Cyberknife

The CyberKnife VSI Robotic Radiosurgery System is a non-invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of both cancerous and non-cancerous tumours in the breast. The treatment delivering beams of high-dose radiation to tumours with extreme accuracy offers new hope to patients worldwide. A robotic arm is used in this technology to engage the radiation rays with any part of the body. A Lightweight Linear Accelerator, commonly abbreviated as LINAC, is involved with a Robotic arm, ensuring view from different angles. It provides a pain-free, non-surgical option for patients who have inoperable or surgically complex breast tumours or who may be looking for an alternative to surgery.

  • MRI Guided Vacuum Assisted Breast Biopsy

Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI-guided breast biopsy is the process of removing a small sample of breast tissue. It is the best procedure to determine the suspicious area for breast cancer. It uses powerful magnetic fields, radio waves; and a computer is used to help in locating a breast abnormality, and for the removing of a tissue sample with a needle for examination under a high-quality microscope. A magnetic resonance imaging-guided breast biopsy is widely helpful when MR imaging process indicates any kind of breast abnormality.

  • Mammography

Mammography is an X-ray technique which is used to obtain a picture of the breast. X-ray of the breast is performed by exposure of the breast to low doses of radiations. For a few seconds, breasts are compressed between two thin plates. Mammography is used in early detection of breast cancer, typically through detection of characteristic masses or microcalcifications. With the Mammography machine available at Medanta, radiologists can get a deep insight of the body in 2D and 3D form, which results in early detection with better accuracy.

  • PET Scan

PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scan is a functional imaging technique used to observe metabolic processes in a human body. During the process, a dye is used which involves radioactive tracers. These tracers are vaccinated into the body through a vein in the arm. The tracer gets diluted in the body. With the help of the tracer, the doctors are able to detect breast cancer, the presence of nodules or other breast abnormalities.

Avail advanced treatment and procedures

  • Mastectomy

Mastectomy is a process where the whole breast is removed in order to prevent the cancerous breast cells from spreading into other parts of the body. While a simple mastectomy only removes a few things like the breast tissue, a modified radical mastectomy removes the entire breast. In a double mastectomy, both the diseased breasts are removed.

  • Breast Conservation Surgery

The breast conservation surgery is less radical than mastectomy and only removes the breast tissue instead of the entire breast. Lumpectomy combined with radiation therapy is often referred to as breast conservation therapy. Radiation therapy for breast cancer is almost always recommended after surgery that removes only the tumour.

  • Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgeries are performed when women start experiencing major problems in their back or neck due to the large size of the breasts. There are also other physical symptoms which cause pain, and hence breast reduction surgery is considered.

  • Fibroadenoma Breast Excision

Fibroadenoma is a non-cancerous tumour and the process of its removal is called excisional breast biopsy. Fibroadenomas are common in young women. Treatment might include monitoring to detect changes in size or feel, a biopsy to evaluate the lump or surgery to remove it.

Why choose Medanta?

With an objective of converting the Medanta Cancer Institute to a centre of excellence and focusing on a Patient First approach, Medanta has formed the Disease Management Group (DMG) approach to cancer care. In this approach for cancer, a specific multidisciplinary group of specialists that includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and physiologists all meet together in a tumour board setting to discuss complex cancer cases and debate the best possible course of treatment for the patient.
